Position: Assistant Director with the Federal Bureau of Investigation

Spouse: Sharon Skinner (Divorced)

Very little is known about the no nonsense former Marine and Vietnam War veteran. He was married to Sharon Skinner, something everyone was surprised to hear, but it appears that marriage ended in divorce for reasons we don't fully know. 

The X-Files fell under his remit towards the end of the first season, and it's clear he has very little time for Mulder's bouts of paranormal fantasy, preferring to side with the logical explanations often provided by Agent Scully.

However, over the years, he has become more open-minded to Mulder's theories, especially when he is witness to a UFO himself at the end of series seven.

He has found it necessary to hide things from Mulder and Scully on several occasions, often testing their trust in him. This includes his involvement with the Cigarette Smoking Man, and when he is being blackmailed by Alex Krycek. 

Skinner is one of the few allies Mulder and Scully had throughout the series, and despite a few bumps in the road, he was there for them right up until the finale.
